At Gentle Birth Options, we believe that Chiropractic care is extremely beneficial during pregnancy and even throughout post-partum. Pregnant women undergo many structural and hormonal changes affecting the stability of the spine and pelvis. Many of the aches and pains of pregnancy can be avoided with regular adjustments. Periodic spinal checkups in pregnancy should be as common as preiodic weigh-ins.
When the pelvis is balanced, the uterus is able to enlarge symmetrically with the growing baby. An unbalanced pelvis directly affects the support of the uterus. Unequal support can reduce the maximum amount of room available for baby, and baby’s ability to move into a position favorable for birth. This is termed intrauterine constraint. The chiropractor can ensure the spinal column, pelvis, and related structures are balanced, moving easily, and free of spinal nerve stress. A balanced mom with a baby in optimal position often leads to a shorter labor. Data has shown a 24% reduction in labor times for first time moms and a 39% reduction in labor time for second and third timers! (Fallon; J. International Chiropractic Assoc. 1994)
